Irish lace is one of the most beautiful and at the same time the most difficult techniques of crocheting.

Bulk flowers, leaves and curls on a thin elegant grid - is the work of high-class masters.

The basis of the technique of Irish lace up are different elements (motives).

A large number of items made in different techniques very often can be used on one swatch: the Bruges lace, Romanian lace, Guipure Lace. Then the related elements are connected (combined) in the fabric together.

Let us dwell on the crochet elements or motifs. All the elements can be divided into dimensional and planar.

These elements could be:

  • firstly, plant and animal origin - flowers, leaves, branches, butterflies, fruits, and so on;
  • secondly, geometric origin - squares, triangles, circles, etc .;
  • and thirdly, an unusual other fancy shape, these are men, beads, swirls, and so on.

When assembling the web, different assembly methods are used. According to which elements are used in the composition and which kind of joining you choose, it could be said about the Irish or Guipure Lace. In Irish crochet, and this is the distinguishing feature of this kind of crocheting, bourden is used. Crocheting elements in bourden style gives relief and volume to the models.

When crocheting in bourden, the foundation are not loops which are used for crocheting stitches, but the bourden, it is also used if you laid crochet loop of the previous row.
